Random shot or Causal conversation

Posted in Group:

So...weeks ago I am at the beauty shop and one of my stylist customers was talking about Chicago celebrities with BAD SKIN and how she wanted them to GET PROACTIV and so forth and so on!!!!!!!...I'm sitting there with NO MAKE UP ON and she looks at my skin and continues to rant about the celebrities with BAD ASS ACNE!..This happens to me alll of the time. I was enjoying my outing at the beauty shop and she takes a shot at me. Now here is the thing...was it a CHEAP SHOT? it certainly felt like a shot at me. I did not comment, but continued on with the conversation. I didnt allow her to ruin my moment!!!!!!

DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THE CRUELTIES FROM RANDOM FOLKS??????

I think that a really crappy way of trying to tell you what product to use. I wouldn't pay it any mind. People are really stupid when it come to that kind of thing. I don't have acne problems but my husband does and he is always getting wierd comments like that. He doesn't even hear them anymore because he is of the opnion that I find him beautiful and I don't care so the rest can get bent. I hear them and they get an earfull pretty quickly. There is nothing he has tried or used that has helped and even with acne he still a sight better looking then most of the men I see!

Thanks for acknowleding that people make comments...because my bf says...your skin is not that bad and thinks that I'm overly sensative. You recognize that people do make comments and you dont have acne.It would certainly help to have a mate that showed unconditional luv like you do toward your husband.

It is so easy to take what someone is saying around us as directed at us (especially as you struggle with acne yourself), but it probably wasn't at all. If it was directed at you, you can just say, "well sometimes these products don't always deliver what they promise and acne is a very sensitive issue." This way you put someone in their place in such a polite way you immediately shut them down.

That's what i thought initially...but when she kept on and on about it...my thought was...damn is she trying to hurt me????? And what really got me was...her profession. She is a social worker! i mean come on, Im not that sensitive as bad as my skin is but I felt like she really should have been more sensative because of the work she does.

Hi!
I'm usually over on the Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma site, but have had terrible breakouts since being diagnosed with NHL. My immune system still isn't up to snuff even though I'm in remission.

I was just reading badmisses complaint, and I, too am sensitive about that issue. You can't "see" the cancer I have, but you can see the scars left from these horrible breakouts and the weeping from the new ones..

When I'm in conflict with someone's meaning of their statement, I ask, "Are you being helpful or hurtful?" I think I would take CK's suggestion as a follow-up at the very least.

Good luck, sweetie!
